Wendy Fontela is a Retired USMC Colonel, where she held various positions in Logistics and Plans, Policy and Strategy. Additionally she served as a Political Advisor. Her career experience includes the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Policy/International Affairs, the United Nations and a Department of Defense Civilian in Afghanistan where she was the Senior Advisor to the Director of Operations, Ministry of Interior.
She began her political life in the late 90’s when she campaigned for a local mayor’s reelection in south Texas and led his recount efforts.
After living in 11 states and 6 countries, Wendy retired to Cornelius in 2019. She and her husband have been married for 49 years and have two adult sons. She holds Master’s degrees in Human Resources Management and Philosophy as well as a Master’s in Strategy from the Army War College.
