District 12 News - Week of June 14, 2021
Dear Friends!
On this date in 1777, the American Flag was adopted, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. And on this date in 1954, the words “Under God” were added to the Pledge of Allegiance.
When I was in grade school, I was a Brownie, which is the first step to becoming a Girl Scout. We started each meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and were taught to respect the American flag. At one such meeting, I was caught clowning around and giggling throughout the pledge. My leader abruptly had me stand before my fellow Brownies and recite the pledge by myself. That night, my Brownie leader was on the phone with my parents, with me on the extension. I do not think I have ever disrespected the flag or the pledge since.
Many of us are frustrated. We feel we are losing our freedoms with the Democrats in Washington. But we must never give up. If we work together locally, we can flip the Senate and House in 2022 and the Biden administration will have little power with the Republicans in the majority. There are nearly 165,000 Republicans in Mecklenburg County alone. If each of us encourage a conservative neighbor to get out and vote, we will win elections, locally, statewide and nationally. We all have free will, and the fight starts with all of us! Never give up!
Happy Flag Day! May God Bless America!
