District 14 News, Week of August 29, 2022

Dear Friends,

I bet you didn’t know that August 29 is National Lemon Juice Day!  I have no idea where they come up with all these National such and such days, but I imagine a room full of people sitting around just throwing out ideas.

When I think of lemons, I see that look on a babies face when they scrunch up their little mouths at the first taste of the tartness of the fruit.  But I also think of how yummy lemons are after they are squeezed in a little water mixed with a ton of sugar poured into a glass.  Straight lemon juice will cause your sour indicators to go off in your jaw, but it will also taste sweet and yummy in salad dressing, pies and lots of other foods.

There is so much going on right now in our personal worlds.  I scratch my head and want to bang it against a wall daily when I hear about what President Biden is up to.  He is the perfect example of robbing Peter to pay Paul in so many of his policies.  This madness goes all the way down to our state and local governments.  Here in Charlotte, we thought we could finally get some common sense back in our City Council, but only 22% of Republicans voted in the last election.  WHAT!!!!!

We are ten weeks and one day away from changing our government.  We can take back the US Senate and House, which will cause the President's power to weaken.  On a state level, if we elect ONE more Republican to the NC Supreme Court, we can end the liberal madness we have experienced the last few years.  The Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners is 100% Democrat, who feel they can do whatever they want….because they can.  We must change this.  There are many other examples of changes that need to be made, including some races in Gaston County.

I am sure that many of you have a sour taste in your mouth for all things politics.  But if we don’t do anything about it, it will continue to manifest itself into more bitterness.  If we help our candidates, and get out and vote, we may finally taste the sweetness of victory!

Avoid going fruity and get involved.

Donuts on the Driveway

Who doesn't like coffee and donuts?

Hey friends,

On the campaign trail I'm often asked, "How can I help?" Let's be honest...most folks don't want to host fundraisers, and most people don't really enjoy door knocking when it is 90* outside! Which I totally understand!

But here is an easy way YOU can help--by hosting a Donuts on the Driveway!
I will bring a cardboard table, donuts, and coffee for you and the folks in your neighborhood. All I ask is that you let me set up on your driveway/sidewalk to hand out the goodies, and for you to invite your friends in your neighborhood.

We all know people in our neighborhoods who are GOP or GOP-friendly--just invite those folks for a fun little time at your driveway! These Donuts on the Driveway events won't be high-pressure, super-political events. Just quick, casual meet and greets so I can say Hi to your neighbors, and give them a donut and some coffee.

Most folks who have already signed up to host these have chosen to host them on Saturdays, but I could even do it early in the morning for the school and work crowd!

If you would like to host a Donuts on the Driveway, and you live in District 5 (basically the Myers Park/SouthPark/Carmel Road/Sardis Road/Cotswold area), please reply to this email or call/text me at 704-880-4916.

Matthew
