Mecklenburg County Republican Party Condemns Indictment of President Donald J. Trump

Charlotte, NC - June 4, 2024

Lawfare: the weaponization of and use of the Department of Justice and other legal systems to damage or delegitimize a political opponent, or to deter an individual's usage of their legal rights.

The Mecklenburg County Republican Party strongly opposes the recent indictment, trial, and conviction of President Donald J. Trump, viewing it as a politically motivated attack designed to unjustly interfere with Donald J. Trump’s 2024 Presidential campaign and the opinion of voters in the upcoming election. This case, brought by a Democrat District Attorney (who ran on a “get Trump” platform), tried by a Democrat judge and jury in a heavily biased setting, is a clear attempt by President Joe Biden's campaign to undermine his key political opponent.

President Trump has consistently maintained his innocence, asserting that the charges are baseless and politically driven. This indictment exemplifies "lawfare," the strategic use of legal systems and institutions to achieve a political advantage, aiming to distract President Trump from his campaign and unfairly influence the electoral process.

The Mecklenburg County Republican Party stands by President Trump and will support him through the appeals process, confident that justice will ultimately prevail. We believe this case is a gross misuse of the justice system, including prosecutorial power. It is an assault on the principles of due process and equal justice under the law.

We must continue to focus on the upcoming election and advocate for the values and policies that benefit all Americans, including the return to a justice system that does not use Lawfare to influence elections. We urge our fellow citizens to see through these politically charged actions and stand united in defense of our constitutional rights and democratic principles, including our right to vote, freedom from Lawfare, and the return to a fair and balanced justice system.
