Mecklenburg Black Republican Club announces blockbuster Juneteenth Freedom Celebration
“MBRC is proud to announce the Juneteenth Freedom Celebration featuring former HUD Secretary, Dr. Ben Carson, NC Lt. Governor, Mark Robinson, and Civil Rights Icon, Clarence Henderson” said club chairwoman, Kimberly Marshall on her recent appearance on The Urban Conservative Podcast. This momentous event is the result of collaborative efforts between Mecklenburg Black Republican Club and NCGOP Black Conservative Voices. Juneteenth is a national holiday commemorating the June 19, 1865, announcement of freedom to slaves in Galveston, TX. They received the message from Union Solders two and half years after President Abraham Lincoln (R), signed the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth celebration is a rich tradition that is held annually in urban and rural areas and is growing in popularity every year.
The event is part of the club’s efforts to claim this holiday as a republican holiday. Some facts to consider:
- The Republican Party was started by black people for black people.
- The slaves were freed by a Republican President.
- First blacks elected to congress were Republicans.
By collaborating with the NCGOP Black Conservative Voices, MBRC was able to obtain nationally recognized leaders in the black conservative movement and present an event for all Mecklenburg citizens, black and white.
